High Precision Moldmakers

One of the mould industry’s most significant customers is the automotive sector, which accounts for around 74% of all orders. What this means is that when there are profound paradigm shifts in this sector, the mould industry must find a way to quickly adapt to these changes.

The automotive industry has been undergoing one of the biggest changes in the history of the industry in recent years: the successful manufacturing of electric vehicles. This has led towards discussions that revolve around replacing combustion engines in the near future. In fact, and largely due to all this uncertainty in the sector, i.e. the investment into electric vehicles and whether the industry will keep on pushing for new combustion models, production has slowed. As a consequence, industries that depend on this sector, particularly the mould industry, will have to be prepared to adapt to the future and to the new challenges it will bring, quickly and efficiently.

This change is already having a huge impact on the mould industry, as electric vehicles have fewer parts, and moulds will no longer be required for combustion engines. This alteration will also require new skills to be developed, as well as strategies and technologies to be redefined. As you know, one of the main features to consider in an electric vehicle is its autonomy, so the vehicle’s own weight has a big impact. The production of lighter parts will therefore undoubtedly be one of the new requirements of the automotive industry.

Another sector that the mould industry will certainly have to adapt to is that of batteries: new solutions will have to be found to meet the changing requirements of both power charging components of batteries and charging stations. The good news is that these new components are an excellent alternative to fill the gap in the industry left by the need to manufacture parts for combustion engines. This just shows how important it is that we keep our eyes peeled for new opportunities, which will allow us to adapt our practices and acquire new skills in the world of moulds, so that we may efficiently respond to the new needs of different sectors and keep up production levels.

Given these and other technological developments, Rectimold has been preparing to meet the new challenges of the automotive industry, one of the areas for which it produces high precision technical moulds for plastic parts.
